"Zusakhe" - a Xhosa word meaning "to build"
Patricia Fekema started Zusakhe in 2007, after she lost her daughter to AIDS. What began as a small initiative supporting HIV-positive women has grown into a beacon of hope for the Dunoon community.
"Our mission is to build up the children of Dunoon by taking them off the streets stricken by poverty, alcohol, drugs and crime, and to provide them with an education and nutritious meals."
From a humble sea container on an open field to a professional registered NGO with modern premises, Zusakhe has transformed countless lives. In 2018, with support from the Rotary Club of Blouberg and international donors, we opened new premises featuring a padded central play area and cozy classrooms.
Today, we stand as a safe haven for children enduring challenges at a young and vulnerable age, providing essential services including childcare, schooling, after-school care, and home care while connecting residents with vital support groups.
